Headshots

You never get a second chance to make a first impression!

Now more than ever, our image based culture – driven by   Facebook, LinkedIn and other social media, along with business websites & HR recruitment searches – demands images that are served up along with profile information about us.

Why you need a professional headshot photograph…
If you’re in business, sales, marketing, management, public relations, or even just trying to upgrade your social media presence, then you need a professional headshot.  Snap shots are fine for the family photo album, but nowadays you need to put your best food forward, and that means presenting your self in a professional manner photographically.  A professional headshot will show you off in the best possible light as a person other people will want to do business with.

How often should you update your headshot…
Some people need to update their headshot annually.  This is especially true for those in the entertainment business.  For the rest of us, if it’s been over two years since your last headshot then you should think about updating it.  As we age our look continues to change and our headshot should reflect how we look now, not what we looked like five or more years ago.

What to wear for your photo session…
The best advise for what to wear is to keep it simple.  Don’t wear shirts with patterns or prints. Solid colors work the best.  Also avoid all white, red, or black tops.  These colors are fine for stylized portraits but don’t work for everybody all the time. Layers with a jacket or cover will often look nice.  Women should keep the jewelry simple.  Avoid large earrings and necklaces.  Also makeup should be as natural as possible.  The focus needs to be on your face, not your clothes or accessories.

How to prepare for a headshot session…
Try to schedule your photo session when you’ll be well rested.  It’s hard enough to relax in front of a camera, lack of sleep only makes it worse.  Bring 3 or more clothing options to choose from (preferably pressed).  Have a since of humor and be prepared to feel foolish.  You don’t have to smile if that’s not your personality, but you should have a good time with the shoot.  After all, your not getting your teeth pulled.
